In their findings, they reported that THCP behaves similarly to THC in the endocannabinoid system by mainly interacting with CB1 receptors. However, THCP has a much stronger binding affinity for CB1 receptors, making it about 33 times more potent than THC.

Scientifically, THCP has a more extended alkyl side chain than THC. This molecular difference makes THCP significantly stronger than THC, allowing it to bind more efficiently with the receptors in the endocannabinoid system. To put it simply, a more extended side chain results in a more robust buzz.

Although THCP induces an incredibly potent high, it also has several other benefits. Research on THCP is still in its early stages since the cannabinoid was only recently discovered. However, the researchers who initially discovered THCP found that it may benefit adults in the following ways:

• Relieving mild to severe pain

In short, of course THCP is legal! In 2018, the United States’ political hemp landscape changed almost overnight when then-President Donald Trump signed the Farm Bill into law. Also known as the Agriculture Improvement Act, the bill legalized hemp and hemp derivatives at the federal level. That said, it left marijuana untouched, keeping it an illegal schedule I controlled substance under federal law.

The Farm Bill defined hemp as any cannabis plant containing 0.3% THC or less on a dry weight basis, while marijuana was defined as any cannabis plant that exceeds that 0.3% THC threshold. So, as long as THCP products are made from hemp containing 0.3% THC or less, they are free to use, sell, buy, possess, and manufacture at the federal level.

After being metabolized, the THCP, now converted into 11-hydroxy, enters the bloodstream and reaches the brain. This process can take upwards of two hours, but once the effects kick in, they feel stronger and last for about eight hours, but depending on how much you take, your rate of metabolism, weight, and age, can last for more than ten hours.

So, in conclusion, smoking THCP will result in a fast onset and a relatively quick wearing off of the effects, while eating THCP takes longer to kick in but also lasts longer and feels stronger.
